  • ASDWA Webinar with Water Research Foundation

    ASDWA is hosting this webinar with the Water Research Foundation (WRF) entitled, “Overview of Current Research and Innovation at the WRF.”  During the webinar, WRF will share relevant information for state drinking water programs about their research efforts and projects on: Per- and polyfluorylalkyl substances (PFAS), Lead and Copper, Harmful algal blooms (HABs), Disinfection byproducts (DBPs) and Premise plumbing.   • Introduction to Enforcement and Compliance History Online (ECHO)

    EPA will hold its next Enforcement and Compliance History Online (ECHO) webinar on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, 1:30-2:30 PM ET. Attendees will go “Behind the Scenes” to learn how ECHO manages environmental data, exploring questions like:

    • From which EPA systems does ECHO retrieve data?
    • How frequently are the data updated, and how do I make corrections?
    • How can I download ECHO data?
    • What are the ECHO web services?

    On June 18, 2020 from 1:00 – 2:30 pm (eastern time), ASDWA will conduct a webinar entitled, “Launching ASDWA’s New PFAS – Source Water Protection Guide and Toolkit.” This webinar will showcase the new guide and toolkit that was developed with support from a Project Advisory Council (PAC) with representatives from nine states (Colorado, Kansas, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia, and Wisconsin), and the Cadmus Group. The purpose of the guide is to demonstrate and share effective strategies for addressing PFAS contamination risk in source waters that will help inform policy decisions, assist state drinking water programs in protecting public health, and encourage collaboration and communication among states and water utilities. The tool includes three main components.

    1. The Decision Support Tool provides examples of state actions to address PFAS contamination.
    2. The Technical Appendix includes an overview of PFAS, chemicals of concern, PFAS in the U.S., and state PFAS profiles.
    3. The Mapping Guidance aids identifying and mapping source waters that are vulnerable to PFAS contamination.

    The Internet of Water is a project established at Duke University in 2018, premised on the idea that efforts to improve water management outcomes in the United States routinely stumble on the problem of inaccessible water data and information. The IoW envisions a world engaged in sustainable water resources management and stewardship enabled by open, shared, and integrated water data and information. The IoW’s mission is to build a voluntary network of communities and institutions to achieve that vision.  The IoW project is also conducting novel research and development on water data informatics, building prototype software and tools to discover, access and use diverse water data from diverse sources. The IoW is designed to mobilize cultural and behavioral change across individuals, agencies, and institutions, to bring about the necessary technological change that will transform water data and information and thus enable better water management outcomes.

    17th Annual EPA Drinking Water Workshop: Small System Challenges and Solutions

    EPA’s free annual drinking water workshop, held in partnership with the Association of State Drinking Water Administrators (ASDWA), will take place on September 1-3, 2020 with training offered on August 31. The workshop will be virtual this year and will provide in-depth information and training on solutions and strategies for handling small drinking water system challenges with a focus on monitoring, distribution, source, and treatment topics.

    The workshop is primarily designed for state primacy agency staff responsible for drinking water regulations compliance and treatment technologies permitting; however, others may also benefit, including territory, tribal, and local primacy staff, water system operators, academics, design engineers, technical assistance providers, and consultants.
