House Passes Continuing Resolution to Avert Government Shutdown

On March 11, the U.S. House of Representatives narrowly passed a continuing resolution (CR) to extend federal funding through September 30, 2025. This temporary funding measure, approved by a vote of 217-213, aims to prevent a government shutdown while providing lawmakers additional time to negotiate a longer-term budget agreement. The bill now moves to the Senate, where its fate remains uncertain. The bill reduces EPA Accounts for State and Tribal Assistance Grants to $4.4 billion.

The Senate must now consider the CR, and while bipartisan negotiations are ongoing, Senate leadership has signaled potential opposition to the House-passed bill. If the Senate fails to approve the measure or propose an alternative by March 14, the government could face a partial shutdown
