NSF/ANSI 61/600 Updated for PFAS Regulations
NSF has updated the NSF/ANSI/CAN 61-2024 (NSF-61) and NSF/ANSI/CAN 600-2024 (NSF-600) standards to align with the final EPA PFAS National Primary Drinking Water Regulations. Federal and state regulations and plumbing codes require drinking water components to be third-party certified to the NSF-61standard for chemical contaminants and impurities from products, components and materials used in drinking water.
The 2024 version of NSF 61 now includes an expanded test battery of seven PFAS compounds including the six that are regulated by the EPA. The standard also includes a January 1, 2028, deadline to comply with the new testing requirements. For products tested and found to comply with the updated PFAS criteria, NSF offers an optional ‘+PFASʼ tested mark to demonstrate compliance. NSF 600 contains the pass/fail criteria for products evaluated to NSF 61 and has also been updated so the Total Allowable Concentration (TAC) aligns with the six regulated PFAS compounds.
