New Executive Order Halts Some IIJA and IRA Funding

Off

On Tuesday, January 21st, President Trump signed the executive order Unleashing American Energy on his first full day in office. The order directed federal agencies to suspend some loans, grants, and other financial incentives from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

While there was initial confusion about how this funding freeze would impact drinking water programs, the White House has since clarified that the freeze only applies to items listed under Section 2 of the order. These items include electric vehicles, lightbulbs, stoves, and offshore oil and natural gas. Drinking water programs and their funding from IIJA and IRA are not in conflict with these items. More changes are sure to come from the new administration as they proceed in their first 100 days in office.
