EPA Releases Preliminary Determinations for Contaminants on the Fifth Contaminant Candidate List

Off

On Tuesday, January 7th, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced its preliminary regulatory determinations for nine contaminants for the Fifth Contaminant Candidate List (CCL 5). EPA makes these regulatory decisions every five years, per the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), in order to set priorities for developing new regulations (or not) on new or unaddressed dangerous substances in drinking water.

The nine contaminants that EPA determined do not warrant regulation include the following: 2-aminotoluene, cylindrospermopsin, ethoprop, microcystins, molybdenum, permethrin, profenofos, tebuconazole and tribufos. EPA made this determination using the best available information at the time, and they will now request public comments on these preliminary determinations. Comments are due 60 days after publication of this notice in the Federal Register and may be submitted to docket number EPA-HQ-OW-2024-0456 on regulations.gov.
