Presidential Advisors Recommendations Report on Groundwater Resilience
The President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) has released a new report that provides recommendations to address groundwater challenges such as depletion, contamination, limited data systems, workforce needs, and climate variability. The report emphasizes the importance of groundwater as a critical asset to ensure safe and affordable drinking water, maintain agricultural productivity, protect ecosystems, and build economic resilience.
The PCAST recommendations for safeguarding groundwater across the nation focus on a forward-looking approach and proactive efforts with more coordination, shared knowledge, scientific innovations, and adaptability to protect groundwater. The recommendations include establishing a coordinated interagency working group on using data to inform local planning and decision-making; expanding research on innovative groundwater technologies; establishing a network of regional hubs to support knowledge sharing and coordination; and more.
