California’s Division of Drinking Water Recognizes the 50th Anniversary of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA)
California’s Division of Drinking Water recognized a historic milestone by celebrating the 50th anniversary of the federal Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). During the State Water Resource Control Board December 4, 2024 meeting, the Board unanimously adopted a resolution commemorating this landmark legislation and designated December 16, 2024, as Safe Drinking Water Act Day in California. The occasion was further enriched by a legislative resolution honoring 50 years of progress under the SDWA sponsored by California Senator John Laird. To amplify the celebration, the Board unveiled a commemorative website https://waterboards.ca.gov/campaigns/sdwa50.html featuring videos from drinking water professionals and government leaders, reflecting on the achievements and continued importance of the Safe Drinking Water Act in safeguarding public health and water quality.
