ASDWA 50th SDWA Anniversary Video Series with Brandon Kernen of New Hampshire
ASDWA’s next video in our continuing series features Brandon Kernen, Administrator of the Drinking Water and Groundwater Bureau at the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services. This series is being conducted in partnership with Travis Loop from waterloop and being released over the course of the year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and the 40th anniversary of ASDWA.
In this week’s video, Brandon Kernen highlights how “the SDWA is one of the most remarkable public health initiatives this country has ever implemented.” He shares that it’s not just about regulations, it’s about including the community and being knowledgeable to support their water system, and support source water protection. He mentions that the Act has also given capacity to EPA and states to respond to PFAS in the absence of regulations, by providing resources to respond and come up with measures to mitigate people’s exposure to this very hazardous compound in drinking water, that has contaminated the southern half of New Hampshire.
