Fourth EPA Six-Year Review Determines Revisions to Existing Drinking Water Regulations are Not Needed
On July 17, EPA released the results of the Fourth Six-Year Review of Drinking Water Standards. The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) requires EPA to conduct this review of existing national primary drinking water regulations (NPDWRs) every six years to determine if there are needs for revisions. Based on the Agency’s assessment of newly available data, science and technologies for this fourth review, EPA has determined revisions to existing NPDWRs are not appropriate at this time. EPA is continuing to work on finalizing the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements, proposing revisions to the Microbial and Disinfection Byproduct Rules and establishing a new perchlorate regulation.
