AWWA Releases 2024 State of the Water Industry Report

The American Water Works Association (AWWA) has released its 2024 State of the Water Industry (SOTWI) Report. The report is based on a survey of more than 2,400 water professionals and covers other priority topics such as aging infrastructure, PFAS, cybersecurity, climate change, workforce, and more. The survey responses highlight water sector trends, share challenges and concerns, identify potential impacts, and provide insight to support the development of strategies to address them.

AWWA started this survey over 20 years ago. This year, survey respondents ranked source water protection as the top issue for the first time. Financial capital improvements and aging water infrastructure have continued to rank as high priorities for the sector, coming in second and third this year. New insights were also provided this year on the future needs for a technology-savvy workforce and concerns about PFAS and supply chain issues.
