EPA Approves Alternative Test Procedures for the Analysis of Contaminants Under SDWA
In the January 30 Federal Register, EPA published the Agency’s approval of 93 alternative testing methods for use in measuring the levels of contaminants in drinking water to determine compliance with national primary drinking water regulations. EPA used a streamlined authority under the Safe Drinking Water Act that allows the Agency to expedite the approval of testing methods, which “provides public water systems, laboratories, and primacy agencies with more timely access to new measurement techniques and greater flexibility in the selection of analytical methods, thereby reducing monitoring costs while maintaining public health protection.” The action is effective immediately.
