ASDWA and GWPC Submit Comments on USDA NRCS National Water Quality Initiative
On April 7, ASDWA and the Ground Water Protection Council (GWPC) submitted joint comments on the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) “Request for Information: Mississippi River Basin Healthy Watersheds Initiative (MRBI) and the National Water Quality Initiative (NWQI).” The comments primarily focus on NWQI opportunities for source water protection. The ASDWA and GWPC recommendations for NWQI include: prioritizing and increasing the number of NWQI source water protection watersheds; expanding NWQI producer participation and management practice implementation outcomes; increasing coordination and planning with state SWP programs; and adding source water protection practices for metrics to measure NWQI outcomes.
