EPA Releases Wastewater Plan for Regulations and a Study to Address PFAS and Nutrients
EPA has released Effluent Guidelines Program Plan 15, that outlines how the Agency will use Clean Water Act provisions to develop technology-based pollution limits for wastewater discharges from industrial sources and conduct studies on discharges of nutrients and PFAS. Plan 15 will also implement actions to revise effluent limitations guidelines (ELGs) and pretreatment standards for reducing PFAS in leachate discharges from landfills. Along with Plan 15, EPA has announced new and expanded studies, including: PFAS discharges from textile manufacturers; industrial discharges of PFAS to publicly owned treatment works (POTWs) to inform potential pretreatment programs; and nutrient impacts from concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) to inform a potential ELG rulemaking.
