EPA Receives 50 Requests for 2021 WIFIA Funding
This week, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced receiving 50 letters of interest in response to the 2021 Notices of Funding Availability for the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) program, a federal credit program administered by EPA for eligible water and wastewater infrastructure projects. The 50 requests totaling $8.2 billion exceed the $6.5 billion in available financing and highlight widespread needs for water infrastructure funding across the nation. Letters of interest came from entities in 25 different states and territories and include 48 water systems (WIFIA) and 2 state infrastructure finance authorities (Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act WIFIA, or SWIFIA). A summary table of the submitted letters of interest and project summaries is available here: WIFIA Letters of Interest Table | US EPA.
