AWWA Source Water Protection Performance Metrics Tool and Webinar
The American Water Works Association (AWWA) Technical and Education Council has published a Source Water Protection Performance Metrics Tool and will hold a webinar on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, 2021, from 1:00 – 2:30 pm (eastern time). The metrics tool is intended help drinking water utilities of all sizes identify and document quantitative and qualitative metrics to assess the benefits of source water protection measures and programs over time. The tool uses worksheets to help utilities develop and select metrics to track and evaluate progress and make continuous improvements to ensure protection actions are achieving program goals and objectives. This evaluation process is one of the six key components of a successful source water protection program specified in the AWWA G300 standard.
The tool worksheets will help utilities measure the return on investments for source water protection activities, demonstrate the cost savings from improved drinking water quality, and help build and enhance trust with customers and stakeholders. Examples of different types of performance metrics provided in the tool include monitoring, land use controls, wastewater and stormwater management, natural and green infrastructure, emergency preparedness, local ordinances, and more. For more information and to download the tool and accompanying materials, visit the AWWA Source Water Protection website and register for the webinar on November 17 here.
