EPA Approves New Methods for Analyses under the Safe Drinking Water Act
This week, EPA approved seventeen alternate test methods for drinking water analyses under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). A fact sheet published by the Agency explains the alternative test procedures for contaminants have been determined to be “as effective as the methods already established in the regulations for the same contaminants.” EPA is using its streamlined approval authority to make these optional, alternative methods (listed in Table 1 of the fact sheet linked above) available for determining contaminant concentrations in samples collected under SDWA.
