Federal Shutdown Averted For Now
Yesterday evening, President Trump signed a stopgap spending bill extending funding for federal agencies through December 20th, giving appropriators another month to negotiate full-year fiscal 2020 funding provisions. The measure – H.R. 3055 – is the second time Congress has passed a temporary spending bill since fiscal 2020 began Oct. 1st.
House and Senate negotiators are finalizing the defense bill that is expected to be released in the coming weeks, with optimistic lawmakers talking of release before Thanksgiving. However, NDAA conferees continue to be stalled by discussions on border wall funding, Space Force, and PFAS provisions.
