Wheeler Confirmed as EPA Administrator
Yesterday the full Senate voted 52-47, largely along party lines, to confirm Acting EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler as the permanent head of the Agency. Wheeler had been acting since former Administrator Scott Pruitt resigned last year. With firm Republican support, confirmation had been expected, although Democrats were hoping for some concessions from Wheeler in exchange for a quick confirmation vote. Wheeler has demonstrated more openness with Congress and the public, and certainly does not have all the personal ethics troubles that ultimately drove out his predecessor, but he is expected to push the Administration’s same deregulatory agenda.
