ACWA Annual Meeting & SDWA-CWA Intersections
The Association of Clean Water Administrators (ACWA), ASDWA’s sister association for wastewater administrators, held its Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon, on August 13-15. This Meeting covered a multitude of issues and highlighted the multiple intersections between the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and the Clean Water Act (CWA): nutrients, infrastructure funding, electronic reporting, cooperative federalism, harmful algal blooms and contaminants of emerging concern. The last two are growing in scope and importance, and more work is needed to solve several difficult scientific, technical and policy issues.
ASDWA and ACWA will continue collaborating on national policy directions to ensure that progress will be made on these issues. As a result of these collaborations, Alan Roberson, ASDWA’s Executive Director, received ACWA’s Environmental Partnership Award at this Meeting.
