EPA Requests Public Comment on Waiver Renewal for Stainless-Steel Nuts and Bolts
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is requesting public comment on its American Iron and Steel (AIS) waiver for stainless steel nuts and bolts that are used in pipe couplings, restraints, joints, flanges, and saddles for State Revolving Fund (SRF) Projects. The current waiver that allows the use of non-domestic products expires on Feb. 18, 2018.
EPA has re-analyzed the current domestic manufacturing capacity and discussed the adequacy of capacity with the manufacturers of couplings, flanges, and restraints that use stainless-steel fasteners discussed in the waiver. These manufacturers generally expressed concern that there is currently an inadequate supply of domestic fasteners to meet their needs in a timely manner. Comments on this waiver are due to EPA by January 31, 2018, and should be submitted to EPA at DWSRFWaiver@epa.gov.
