Mike Shapiro, Acting AA for Water, Announces His Retirement
On Friday, October 20th, Mike Shapiro, the Acting Assistant Administrator (AA) for the Office of Water, announced his retirement at the end of the year. Mike has served in the role of Acting AA for Water for several Administration transitions and his service to the water sector is greatly appreciated.
Here is Mike’s email to water sector partners: “I want to let you know that I have announced my plans to retire at the end of the year. After 37 great years at EPA, it’s time to move on, but I will certainly miss the work I’ve been doing, and most importantly, the people I get to work with. Those include you and your colleagues who share with EPA the responsibility for managing the nation’s environmental enterprise. Hopefully, I will get to see many of you before I leave the agency, but I want to let you know how much I appreciate the opportunity I’ve had to work with you over the years”.
It’s possible that David Ross, who has been nominated for AA for Water and approved by the Senate Committee might be in place by the end of year. But a vote of the full Senate is needed for his confirmation, and given other legislative priorities, it’s clear whether that vote will take place by the end of year.
