White House Requests More Disaster Funds

More funding for hurricane, wildfire, and flooding relief is on the Administration’s agenda this week. The White House has asked Congress for an emergency supplemental appropriation to provide $12.77 billion for FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund and $576.5 million to fight wildfires. House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) appears to be amenable to this request.
Additionally, the Administration is requesting $16 billion in debt relief for the National Flood Insurance Program due to escalating damage claims after Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.  This new request supports continuing needs despite an earlier Congressional “hurricane relief” supplemental of $15.25 billion.
