Australia Releases Draft Drinking Water Guidelines for Perfluorinateds
Australia’s National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) has released a draft chemical fact sheet and draft health-based guideline values for per- and poly-fluoroalkylated substances. These draft materials might be of interest to states given the growing interest in perfluorinated compounds due to increased occurrence and increased concern about potential substitutes for PFOA and PFOS. The approach for establishing the draft health-based guidelines provides some insight into Australia’s approach to addressing the inherent uncertainties with emerging chemicals.
