NOAA GLERL Tool for Tracking Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs)
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL) has posted an experimental tool using satellite data to track harmful algal blooms (HABs) in Lake Erie. This tool shows real promise for helping water systems and state primacy agencies track the formation and movement of HABs, and it will be interesting to see how this technology might be downscaled for smaller lakes and reservoirs.
