Senate EPW Committee Holds Infrastructure Hearing
On Thursday, July 20th, the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee held a hearing – “Innovative Financing and Funding: Addressing America’s Crumbling Water Infrastructure”. The three witnesses provided a range of views on infrastructure, and several Senators indicted their interest in infrastructure investment in their opening statements and questions to the witnesses.
However, this hearing wasn’t linked any potential legislation – it was more informational. This is in contrast to the House Environment Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee that voted to move forward “H.R._, the Drinking Water System Improvement Act of 2017” on July 13th. The House legislation has the potential to continue moving through Congress and amend the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) in this Congress.
