Final Regulatory Determinations Are Published
This week, EPA published the final regulatory determinations from the third Contaminant Candidate List (CCL3) in the Federal Register, deciding not to regulate four contaminants and deferring one other. EPA has made a final regulatory determination not to issue a national primary drinking water regulation for dimethoate, 1,3-dinitrobenzene, terbufos and terbufos sulfone because they are not occurring, or occur infrequently in drinking water. However, the Agency has chosen to not make a final regulatory determination for strontium at this time. The Agency based its decision to delay a final determination for strontium on public comments received and plans to further evaluate scientific information that became available after publication of the preliminary regulatory determinations. By delaying action, the agency can use the best available science to conduct additional scientific analyses to determine if there is a need to develop a national drinking water regulation for strontium. See the Federal Register notice for more details.
