ASDWA and States Share Legionella Perspectives with Veterans Administration
ASDWA staff and representatives from Ohio and Minnesota shared perspectives on Legionella control and the treatment of premise plumbing in buildings during a training conference of the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). The conference was held in Cincinnati, OH on March 10-12 to educate the managers and engineering staff from VA medical facilities about VHA’s Directive 1061 on the Prevention of Legionella. ASDWA shared information from a survey of states on how they are currently addressing treatment of building water systems and encouraged VA facilities to involve states early in planning for any water treatment facilities. The two state representatives covered how they interact with these facilities and what requirements they impose. Officials at the VA are very interested in continuing to work with ASDWA to improve the communication and coordination between their health care facilities and state drinking water programs.
