The Washington State Department of Health, Division of Environmental Public Health – Office of Drinking Water is searching for a dynamic, high-energy and committed public health professional to fill the position of Public Health Advisor 3 – Water Quality Assessment Specialist. This position is located in Tumwater, Washington. (Recruitment # DOH2322)
This position directly supports the Office of Drinking Water (ODW) mission “to protect the health of the people of Washington State by ensuring safe and reliable drinking water” by providing consultation and/or assessment to the office in the areas of compliance, water quality monitoring, public disclosure, and health advisories. S/he is program lead for the Laboratory Reporting Rule (WAC 246-390), office liaison with the Department of Ecology Laboratory Program (ELAP) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to maintain primacy, and is the Administrative Program Lead for the group A public drinking water requirements for the fluoridation of drinking water (WAC 246-290-460).
Duties Include:
- Works closely with the EPA Region 10 and the ELAP to ensure that Washington maintains primacy of its drinking water program by having a lab accreditation and principal drinking water laboratory program.
- Acts as the ODW content expert responsible for developing and enforcing regulations regarding the way accredited laboratories report drinking water analysis results.
- Acts as the Administrative Program Coordinator, analyzing fluoride monthly reports, issuing informal enforcement, and referring chronic violators to the Office Compliance Coordinator.
- Acts as the ODW content expert for fluoride operator training, public hearings, and public disclosure requests.
