National Source Water Collaborative Steering Committee Discusses Potential Actions and White Paper to Promote Source Water Protection
On June 23rd, the National Source Water Collaborative’s Steering Committee convened a meeting (including ASDWA staff) to initiate a dialogue on key barriers, opportunities and potential actions for reenergizing and advancing source water protection in light of recent contamination events, such as the West Virginia chemical spill. During the meeting, members discussed a range of topics such as: policy challenges; data and information needs and gaps; assessment and protection options; notification, mitigation, and resiliency considerations; and coordination approaches. The next steps for the group will to be to further identify gaps and needs of various audiences and determine an action plan for moving forward – over the next several months — with the development of a white paper, messaging, and/or other deliverables.
