Smart Growth America Publishes Report of Innovative State Practices and Strategies for Land Use and Source Water Protection
Smart Growth America (SGA) has released a new report entitled “Outside the Box: Innovative Practices and Strategies that Connect Land Use Decisions to Drinking Water Source Protection.” This report is designed as a follow-up to Elements of An Effective State Source Water Protection Program, a 2008 report developed by ASDWA and the Ground Water Protection Council (GWPC). This new SGA report focuses on some of the most powerful tools identified over the course of theEnabling Source Water Protection project that worked with seven states to align land use, and clean water and drinking water policies to support local protection of drinking water sources. The report includes examples of innovative and effective approaches that state source water protection programs have developed in response to common barriers to implementing source water protection. Where possible, there are links in the text to resources that will provide additional information, including contacts to the state practitioners who can provide the most up-to-date information.
