EPA Posts New List of Laboratories Certified for Round 2 of LT2 Monitoring
EPA has posted a list of laboratories currently certified to analyze Cryptosporidium for the second round of monitoring under the Long Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule (LT2). This monitoring begins for the larger water systems in 2015. EPA directly approved Cryptosporidium laboratories for the initial round of LT2 monitoring. However, for the second round, approval of laboratories has transitioned to the states. States that are willing to provide laboratory certification for Cryptosporidium will do this as part of their existing certification program. Some states also certify out-of-state labs through their program and a number of labs on the new EPA list are certified by other states.
EPA is offering more certification officer training in 2014 and more states may begin certifying labs for LT2 monitoring. As new approvals are completed, EPA will update their listing.
