Appropriations Subcommittees Name New Leaders
The recent retirement of Rep. Rodney Alexander (R-LA) and the death of Rep. Bill Young (R-FL) has led to a reorganizational shuffle among House Appropriations Subcommittee Chairs.
The new chair for the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior and Environment is Rep. Ken Calvert (R-CA). The former chair, Mike Simpson (R-ID), has taken the lead for the Energy and Water Development Subcommittee. The former Energy and Water lead, Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ) is now at the helm of the Defense Subcommittee.
Calvert said that, as Subcommittee chair, his focus will fall in three principal arenas: promoting energy development; limiting burdensome regulations; and Federal wildfire management capabilities.
