House Science Merges Two Subcommittees
House Science, Space and Technology Committee Chair, Lamar Smith (R-TX) has announced that the Committee has unanimously voted to merge its Technology and Research subcommittees into a single subpanel. Now called the Research and Technology Subcommittee, the new panel will have 10 Republicans and eight Democrats with the addition of Chris Collins (NY) as a newly seated Republican and Robin Kelly (IL) as a new Democrat. Rep Larry Bucshon (R-IN) is the new chair and Rep. Dan Lapinski (D-IL) is the ranking minority member.
The new Subcommittee will take on all of the subject areas of the previous panels including science policy and education; the White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP); science, technology, engineering and math education; the National Science Foundation; the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST); and Federal technology transfer programs.
