ACWI Climate Change Adaptation Workgroup Meets
On June 20th, the Advisory Committee on Water Information’s (ACWI) Water Resources Adaptation to Climate Change Workgroup (which includes ASDWA representatives) met to share information on the progress of action items and to listen to presentations about other related efforts. Following are some actions, projects, and resources that should be of interest to state drinking water programs:
- The ACWI Climate Workgroup is developing a set of fact sheets on Federal agency coordination activities as well as a summary of water elements in NOAA’s National Climate Assessment. The group is also developing a facebook page and hopes to conduct a face-to-face meeting this coming November.
- Fay Augustyn of American Rivers and Ben Chou of NRDC provided a presentation on Getting Climate Smart: A Water Preparedness Guide for State Action, that can serve as a state or local level climate preparedness guide.
- Laura Petes of NOAA provided a presentation on the climate change elements of the National Ocean Policy Implementation Plan.
- Workgroup members highlighted some other resources including:
- EPA’s Energy Efficiency in Water and Wastewater Facilities: A Guide to Developing and Implementing Greenhouse Gas Reduction Programs.
- GAO’ report: Climate Change: Future Federal Adaptation Efforts Could Better Support Local Infrastructure Decision-makers.
- The Johnson Foundation’s Dialogues on Water Infrastructure.
- NOAA and NASA’s National Climate Assessment Societal Indicators Report that includes several indicators that address water.
