Executive Order Creates New EPA Succession Order
If events were to unfold that would preclude the EPA Administrator or Deputy Administrator from performing their jobs, a new Executive Order 13614 restructures the order of succession within the Agency. Since 2004, the succession policy has listed Assistant Administrators (sequentially) for Solid Waste, Toxic Substances, Air and Radiation, and Water as the next in line to run the Agency. This new order, signed on May 21, places the General Counsel ahead of these program offices. Interestingly, the new Executive Order also adds the Administrator for Region 8 and the Deputy Administrator for Region 2 to the end of the succession list – after all Headquarters program and finance offices.
