AWWA Standards Receive DHS SAFETY Act Designation
The American Water Works Association has announced that the J100-10 and G430-09 Standards have been awarded SAFETY Act designation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The designation carries important liability protection for utilities which properly implement these standards. AWWA’s J100 is the Standard for Risk and Resilience Management of Drinking Water and Wastewater Systems and G430 is the Standard for Security Practices for Operation and Management. DHS has concluded that the proper utilization of either of these Standards will assist in effectively mitigating acts of terrorism from occurring at water facilities.
To further explain the value of adopting and implementing the elements of the J100 and G430 Standards, AWWA will host a complimentary webcast titled “Water Sector Security and Preparedness Standards. The webcast is scheduled for Wednesday, March 21 at 1:00 pm (ET). Registration information is available at www.awwa.org/webcasts.
For additional information on the standards, see the AWWA Advisory Alert.
